The origin of the Dragon Boat Festival
Dragon Boat Festival is an ancient traditional festival, which began in the Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period in China, and has a history of more than 2,000 years. It is the fifth day of the fifth lunar month every year. According to "The Chronicles of Jingchu", the fifth day of May is also called "Duanyang Festival" because it is midsummer when climbing the mountain and sunning the sun, and it is midsummer in May, and its first afternoon is the day when it is sunny. In addition, the Dragon Boat Festival is also called "Noon Day, May Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Bathing Orchid Festival, Poets' Day" and so on. Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional cultural festival popular in China and other countries in Chinese character culture circle.
Dragon Boat Festival originated in China. It was originally a totem sacrifice festival for the tribes worshiping dragon totem in ancient Baiyue area (the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the south area). Before the Spring and Autumn Festival in Baiyue, it was a custom to hold tribal totem sacrifice in the form of dragon boat race on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. Later, due to Qu Yuan, a poet of the state of Chu (now Hubei) in the Warring States Period, who committed suicide by jumping on the Miluo River with a boulder on that day, the ruler took the Dragon Boat Festival as a festival to commemorate Qu Yuan in order to establish the patriotic label of loyalty to the monarch. In some areas, there are also sayings to commemorate Wu Zixu and Cao E.
Today, the Dragon Boat Festival is still a very popular grand festival among the people of China. The Dragon Boat Festival has been a traditional habit of China people for more than two thousand years. Because of its vast territory, numerous nationalities and many stories and legends, it has not only produced many different festival names, but also different customs in different places. Its contents mainly include: "When my daughter goes back to her mother's house, she hangs a portrait of Zhong Kui, greets the ghost boat, hides in the afternoon, sticks a leaf sign in the afternoon, hangs calamus and wormwood, swims all diseases, wears a sachet, prepares a sacrifice, races a dragon boat, flies a kite, competes, hits the ball, swings, bathes children in bitter herbs and wheat medicine, paints realgar, drinks realgar wine, calamus wine and eats five poisons.
